GUIDELINES
In 2010, Respo International wants to have started, and, as the case may be, have completed, projects on three continents (Africa, Europe and South America) and wants to have made a beginning with a project on a fourth continent (Asia). Three guidelines are leading in these projects:
I Designing on the spot
Within each project several organizations are selected for people with a disability (rehabilitation, adaptive disability, visual impairment, mental disability). In cooperation with local employees these organizations develop a specific movement programme. Additionally, depending on the local possibilities, adapted materials for games and sports are designed and developed. Apart from educating the local organization's employees, who take care of the continuity of the offer, the gained knowledge is distributed via workshops and teaching materials to other organizations.
II Knowledge circulation and permanence
In each developing country in which a programme is set up, collaborations are started with partners who are capable of taking care of the continuity of the programme, for instance, organizations for people with a disability, rehabilitation centres, national sport- and government organizations. The highest goal is to involve a university in the project that is capable of integrating the knowledge in the training offer. Each project starts and ends with a national or regional seminar in which the guidelines for the start and the continuation of the programme are being ratified.
III Emancipation and education
An important goal in the project activities is to display what people with a disability can mean to society. At this moment people with a disability are often considered useless and prospectless in developing countries. The media will be approached actively to bring the project activities to the notice. Also, several events (sport tournaments, clinics, demonstrations) will be organized in which people with a disability show their possibilities in movement and sport activities.
