GUIDELINES
Respo International is involved in projects on three continents (Africa, Europe and South America) and it will start a project in Asia before the year 2010. To achieve those tasks, we will rely on the following guidelines:
I Developing programs on the spot
Within each individual project, Respo will select several local organisations that help people with a disability. With the help of these organisations, Respo will develop specialist sports activities and programmes, adjusted to the circumstances and surroundings. We also design and develop specialist sports and games materials which can be used by the local organisation. Furthermore we educate local workers and volunteers, so the sports activities and programs can be continued and spread through the region, even without the help of Respo and its experts.
II Spreading knowledge and making it last
In every country where Respo starts a project, we contact local organisations who are capable of giving our project a lasting effect. Centres for people with a disability, national and regional sports associations, and local governments help facilitate our project when Respo leaves them. Our goal in every project is to find a university or college that will incorporate our knowledge into its education and thus helping it spread through the region. Also, every project starts and ends with a seminar in which we explain our goals and guidelines to ensure the project becomes a success.
III Education and emancipation
An important goal within each project is to show what disabled people can achieve within the society. In many third world countries, people with either a physical or a mental disability are considered as inferior or even useless. Respo actively pursues local media to cover the project and its divers activities, which helps educate people about living with a disability. We also organise additional events, like tournaments, clinics and demonstrations, where people with various disabilities are able to show what they are capable of.
