Respo main contractor of South Africa

Under the terms of the policy document ‘Sport coalitions at work', NOC*NSF has appointed Respo International as the main contractor of South Africa.

February 11 2008 the Dutch Development Cooperation minister Koenders and the State Secretary for Health, Welfare and Sport Bussemaker presented the policy document: ‘A shot at open goal. The power of sport in development cooperation.' The policy document starts off with the observation that all over the world the conviction has grown that sport, due to her social significance, popularity and visibility, can function as a catalyst and a versatile instrument to help achieve specific development purposes.

That conviction also exists in the Netherlands. The minister of Development Cooperation and the State Secretary of Sport sent out a new impulse with the mentioned document to indicate the Dutch engagement and effort in the field of sport and development cooperation.

For the period of 2008-2011, 16 million Euros is made available. This amount of money is partly intended to finance the use of Dutch sport- and/or development organizations. Apart from that a flow of money is available for local organizations in developing countries. The financing relation with NCDO and the programme of Sport will continue within this policy.

In the period of August 2008 - May 2009, NOC*NSF, under the authority of the State Secretary of HW&S, has designed part of the policy document. Within the denominator ‘Sport coalitions at work', NOC*NSF has formulated programmes in 10 selected countries in which the input of Dutch (sport) organizations will be utilized optimally and permanently for development. For each country, NOC*NSF has advised the corresponding Dutch main contractor to apply for financial aid at HW&S.
