Ethiopië

Ethiopië is een toonaangevend project van Respo International. Bij de oprichting van de stichting in 2005 is Respo International in Ethiopië gestart. In de periode van 2005 tot 2010 hebben verschillende projecten in Ethiopië plaatsgehad in samenwerking met Stichting DIR. Eén van de belangrijkste resultaten is de oprichting van het House of the Sport, wat vrijwel zelfstandig wordt gerund door 35 Ethiopische medewerkers, waarvan 60% (21) met een handicap.

We posit that participation in non-elite sports programs appropriate for people with a disability of average physical ability and skills can meet the simultaneous needs of offering people with a disability new venues in which to gather and breaking down restrictive social norms. Sports may be a catalyst for the transformation of social norms.
